Places of interest

There are so many wonderful attractions in Menorca that there is sure to be something for everyone to see. Attractions in Menorca include a wide variety of places to visit, so whether you are looking for thrills and excitement, or perhaps some Menorcan history and cultural exhibitions, your preference will certainly be addressed.

Menorca Harbors
The infinite waterfront of the town of Mahon offers a lot of interesting spots and structures that are worthy of a few rolls of film (or the more modern version of memory cards and digital photography). Several islanders even suggest taking the photos from the water in order to capture the best scenery. From the Menorca harbors, see also the Balearic fishing vessels in Arab design, and other Menorca idiosyncrasies. Try as well the harbor tours being conducted around town most of which take around an hour. The tickets are available from the nearby Xoriguer Gin Distillery.

Es Freginal Park
Es Freginal Park is to be found in the heart of Menorca's capital city, Mahon. This green park has several areas to sit in, have picnics, and see flower exhibits. This is also a popular spot for countless cultural events in Menorca. Many world class musicians perform on the stage of this park, particularly during the Jazz Festival.

Xoriguer Distillery
Menorca's very own Xoriguer Gin Distillery, constructed during the 18th century, is situated at the Moll de Ponent dockside. This distillery possesses massive copper stills which are essential in the production of top quality Menorca gin. People may sample and purchase the many other types of liquor that the Xoriguer Distillery manufactures. This attraction is open to the public from Monday to Friday 8:00am to 7:00pm and Saturdays 9:00am to 1:00pm.

Placa Alfons III
The eye-catching plaza named Placa Alfons III is to be found on the outer reaches of the old town in Menorca, and is in close proximity to Avda de la Constitucio. This plaza is lined with noteworthy restaurants and cafés that you should sample yourself. However, the most marvelous attraction is the aged windmill, which now serves as headquarters for the town's tourist information office.

Sant Francesc Church
Situated in the Placa de Monesir of Mahon, the Sant Francesc Church boasts of an impressive altar in Gothic design, an octagonal chapel, and an interesting assortment of Baroque ornaments.

Ciutadella Cathedral, Ciutadella, Menorca, Spain
Ciutadella Cathedral is an extraordinary 13th century place of worship, to be found in the Placa de la Catedral in Ciutadella. Typical of a Christian church erected during that time, this structure was built on the spot of an ancient mosque. This church shows impressively meticulous architecture, stone carvings of unique mythical creatures and a Neo-Gothic awning that hangs high above the principal altar.

Santa Clara Church
Established in the year 1287, the Santa Clara Church is located in the town of Ciutadella. Throughout the passing of centuries, this church has suffered many damages and undergone subsequent restorations. The main features of this place of worship include an obscure wood carving portraying the 'Adoration of Shepherds.' The wooden carving was stolen many years ago and was fortunately retrieved after some time. At present, this church still houses a small group of nuns.

Sant Antoni Church
Similar to several churches in Menorca, the 17th century Sant Antoni Church located in Carre de Vassollo was tremendously damaged during the Spanish Civil War, and it was closed for many years while undergoing restoration. At present, the church is once again a well-liked place of worship in the island.

If you have walked all around the island and you would like to go on with your tourism, it is possible to take a plane to London, where you can stay in London apartments while you visit the city.
