The starting point of food in Menorca is inevitably fish, or seafood for that matter. The seafood being harvested along the island’s coasts come in massive quantities. No doubt, the most famous dish that Menorcans enjoy is the caldereta de langosta or the lobster stew.Another popular seafood dishes is the Shellfish Paella. The Tordos con col (thrushes with cabbage) is often served during the autumn season.

A peasant dish called the Pa amb oli (bread flavored with salt and olive oil and rubbed with fresh tomato) frequently precedes a meal.

The Mahon cheese has earned praises since time immemorial, but the recognition was formalized in the year 1985. The Regulating Council is assigned to monitor and make sure that the extraordinary qualities of its smell, flavor and characteristic are sustained, identifying each cheese with a numbered label as a guarantee to the consumer that he is acquiring a genuine "Mahón” cheese.

To begin your wonderful journey to Menorcan eating, ponder on these delights and take advantage of the restaurants around town that will surely satisfy your taste buds to the maximum degree!

· Start with an “out of the ordinary” variation on vichyssoise, one velvety-chilled with lobster bits.

· Indulge on the freshly made house special, a salad of prawns, avocado, black olives, radicchio, and hearts of palm.

· A quantity of meat dishes filled with gastronomic zest would be great, plus pork loin with spanking new plums is especially enticing.

· Also try the ping-pong ball sized meatballs soaked in a flavorful almond sauce.

· For the many seafood lovers and diners in general, the most sought after and classy main course is a humungous serving of the caldereta de langosta (lobster), including grouper baked with slices of garlic in oil or vinegar sauce, served with an aromatic ratatouille.

· An interesting and novel gastronomic contribution of Menorca is the tender ostrich steaks in a sweet sauce with a little bit of sherry.

· For dessert, nothing can beat borrachitos al gin de Menorca, little cakes soaked in Menorcan gin and served with a strawberry coulis.
